Virtual Explorations of the Greater Bay Area: Enhancing Geography and Interdisciplinary Teaching with Digital Tools

7 April, 2025 @ 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm UTC+0

In recent years, e-learning, blended learning, and experiential learning have gained significant traction across diverse academic disciplines. This project investigates how virtual field trips can enhance geography education and related subjects in secondary and tertiary settings. Two teaching packages have been developed using innovative e-learning tools including VR CAVE immersive environments, ArcGIS StoryMaps, and web-based 360° virtual tours. These resources focus on three critical development themes in China’s Greater Bay Area: industrial transformation, urban renewal, and heritage conservation.

The workshop will introduce these interdisciplinary virtual field trip packages and demonstrate their application across multiple subject areas including geography, general studies, citizenship and social development, as well as tourism and heritage studies. Participants will engage in critical discussions about the pedagogical strengths and limitations of each digital tool employed in the project.
